Poughkeepsie BJJ coach Brian McLaughlin shows how to transition from the mount to the back utilizing the gift wrap position. The gift wrap, originally popularized by Rickson Gracie, is an excellent control position for both sport grappling and mixed martial arts. McLaughlin credits his coach coach and fellow BJJ Black Belt Rob Kahn with originally teaching him the outstanding transition.
From head and arm control you can catch the katagatame or arm triangle choke. You have the option to finish from mount or side
This is one of my favorite submissions filmed at Precision MMA a Dutchess County BJJ school
Escaping the mount is no small task, the person on top not only has the most dominant pin, they also have a myriad of submission options available to them. The best escape is not simply one that allows the bottom player to progress to an improved position – a great escape keeps you shielded from submissions and requires the least amount of effort to perform. The foot drag is a near perfect escape. Executing the maneuver properly leaves practically no openings and the technique is not physically exhausting to perform.
